A landmark knife in Benchmade's history, the 318 Proper is the first-ever slipjoint made by the legendary American manufacturer — and it's a masterclass in refined simplicity. Blending classic gentleman's knife tradition with Benchmade's uncompromising standards for materials and craftsmanship, the Proper is the ideal everyday carry for those who appreciate understated elegance.
The 2.82" clip-point blade is crafted from CPM-S30V stainless steel (58-60 HRC) with a satin finish, delivering exceptional edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance in a slim, traditional package. The blade deploys smoothly via a classic nail nick and is held open by a strong backspring slip-joint mechanism — no locking mechanism means it's legal to carry in many places where locking folders are restricted. A stop-pin prevents the spring from closing unexpectedly for added safety and confidence.
The canvas Micarta handle scales are both beautiful and functional, offering a secure, comfortable grip that only improves with use. Skeletonized stainless steel liners keep weight to a minimum at just 2.28 oz, while the lanyard hole at the butt of the handle provides a convenient way to keep the knife accessible without a pocket clip. Proudly made in the USA and backed by Benchmade's LifeSharp lifetime sharpening service.
